Marchers in the 2013 Twin Cities Pride parade carry rainbow flags as spectators watch along Hennepin Avenue in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

If you look in the news and at our Twitter account this week, you’ll notice that we’re drawing attention to the annual celebration of Pride which focuses on the equality and empowerment of individuals within the LGBT spectrum.

2017 marks the 50 year anniversary of the Sexual Offences Act which decriminalized homosexual acts between men of a consenting age. Prior to this homosexuality was punished with severe penalties including imprisonment and forced chemical castration – a stain on the nation’s past.

Fortunately the last 50 years have brought understanding and acceptance and have allowed the voice of the LGBT community to be heard and acknowledged. The workplace has benefited from businesses and business leaders that would previously not have existed and guidelines and resources have been produced to enable employers to support absolutely everyone within their workplace and laws introduced to protect equality, a development that we as HR specialists champion.

Each day this week our Twitter feed has published useful and informative content to highlight this year’s very significant Pride week.
